What
is Sports and Remedial Massage
Sports and Remedial Massage is a powerful therapeutic technique
in a range of compression and stretching techniques is applied
to the body's muscle and connective tissues. It is used
to great effect in the rehabilitation of all soft tissue
dysfunction ranging from sport-related injury to aches and
strains caused by everyday activities, such as working,
lifting and gardening.
Everyday and sporting activities involve muscle movement,
this movement that, at best results in micro-tears, or in
more extreme cases, can cause complete rupture of the muscle
and/or tendons. Through compression and stretching, Sports
Massage helps the body's natural healing process by encouraging
the flow of blood to the affected areas and the re-alignment
of torn fibres.
Sports Massage increases flexibility and range of movement.
This results in a faster healing process and has the unique
benefit of breaking down scar tissue, which can otherwise
lead to reduced tissue mobility. With the use of hands-on
techniques, the treatment assists injury through early detection
of muscle dysfunction. It also promotes faster recovery
after training and competition at both physical and psychological
levels.
Sports Massage offers distinct advantages for pre-event,
inter-event, post-event and rehabilitation treatments and
is increasingly regarded by professional athletes and coaches
as playing an essential role in enhancing athletic performance
and preventing injury
